The mission of the Library-for-Liberia is to improve the quality of life for the Liberian children by providing books and reading resources that enhance the literacy rate of the children. Special emphasis will be placed on supporting student’s at all academic levels and on stimulating young children’s interest and appreciation for reading and learning. The library resource rooms will serve as a learning and educational center for all children of the community.
 

The Liberian civil war left the country’s infrastructure completely destroyed, making it more difficult for children and students to have the education they require in order to achieve their dreams.

• 99% of the schools do not have a library

• Schooling is almost non-existent in the rural area of the country

• 44% of the population is illiterate

We are looking for volunteers, librarians, sponsors, partners, and grantors that will help us build the first public library in the country, which will develop the minds of Liberian people and bring long-lasting success and prosperity to Liberia. Please help us in this endeavor by donating the following items:

• Gently used (covers and pages intact, clean, and readable) reading books, dictionaries, and text books

• Textbooks that are copyright 2000 or later

• Children’s hardcover picture books with brightly colored pictures and interesting stories
